Easy Apple Galette

Easy apple Galette

I totally cheat by using pre-made pie crusts. This recipe is tart, not too sweet and not too filling, which I like. My family adds whipped cream or vanilla ice cream to sweeten it up a bit.

Ingredients: (makes two)

3 large apples granny smith apples peeled and cut into thin slices

5 T brown sugar

1 tsp lemon juice

2 tsp cornstarch

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/8 tsp salt

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 large egg, beaten (to glaze the crust)

Coarse sugar, for sprinkling

Pre-made pie crusts (which usually come in a package of two)

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 375°

  • Make the apple filling – toss the apples, sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, spices, and vanilla together.

  • Unroll the pie dough (I use parchment paper underneath)

  • Arrange apples on top.

  • Fold in dough edges about an inch over your apples.

  • Brush crust with egg wash, then sprinkle with coarse sugar.

  • Bake until crust is golden brown (40-50 minutes).

  • Let cool a little bit and serve by itself, with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
